Lancia finished their own four-wheel drive rallycar in 1985 and Henri Toivonen immediately drove to victory on it's debut in RAC Rally. Group B Delta S4 was powerful but according to the drivers, difficult to drive.
Toivonen, driving a Lancia Delta S4, died in a crash in Corsica on 2 May 1986 with his American co-driver, Sergio Cresto.
The powerful Group B rally cars were banned from competing the following season which ended rallying's popular supercar era to 1986.
